Khenpo Sonam Tashi

Kenpo Sonam TashiBorn in Bhutan in 1952, Khenpo Sonam Tashi served Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s attendant from 1966 to 1983. Attending Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche provided Khenpo with excellent training from Rinpoche’s own tutors and his grandfather, the revered Lama Sonam Zangpo. Khenpo was present at Rinpoche’s enthronement in Sikkim and resided with him during Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s studies at the Royal Chapel Monastery and at Sakya College. In addition to training as a scholar, he learned the ritual arts from Lama Sonam Zangpo and Lama Chogden, Rinpoche’s chöpon from his previous life who became his first tutor after his enthronement.

Khenpo Sonam Tashi is now the abbot of Chökyi Gyatso Institute in Bhutan, but often accompanies Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche when he conducts ceremonies and teachings.
